15 Killer Windows 7 Keyboard Shortcuts

One of my best keyboard shortcut I ever used it

1. Ctrl+Shift+N to Create a New Folder

Creating a new folder in Windows explorer is something we all need to do on a frequent basis. And until now, there was no default shortcut key available for this task. But Windows 7 changed that.

You could now use Ctrl+Shift+N to quickly create a new folder in Windows or anywhere on your computer where a folder can be created.

2. Ctrl+Shift+Click to Open a Program As Administrator

There are many instances when just clicking on the icon of the application and opening it doesn’t solve your purpose. You need to right click on it and click on “Run as Administrator” so that you can make the required changes to the app.

In Windows 7, this can be done with a keyboard shortcut. You just need to point your mouse cursor on that program and then click on it while pressing Ctrl+Shift keys to open it as administrator.

3. Shift+Right-Click Enhances Send to Menu

The above screenshot shows the default send to menu that I get when I simply right click on a program.

Now, if I press the Shift key, and while having it pressed, I right click on the icon, I get an enhanced send to menu. See the screenshot below to check how it looks.

4. Shift+Right-Click on a Folder to Open Command Prompt

If you do Shift+right-click on a folder, you’ll find an option that says “Open command windows here.” If you love working with the command prompt, this option should come in handy.

5. Win+Space to Quickly Show Desktop

Remember our quick tip on hiding open windows in windows 7 ? Well, this is the keyboard shortcut version of that mouse cursor trick. Pressing the Win key and the space bar simultaneously shows you the desktop immediately.

6. Win+Up/Down/Left/Right for Moving the Active Window

If you intend to quickly move the active window to make space for other apps, you could do that by using the Win key and one of the arrow keys. Each arrow key would move the window in the direction it is meant to.

7. For Dual Monitors: Win+Shift+Left Arrow Key to Move Active Window to Left Monitor

If you are on a dual monitor setup using Windows 7 then you could press the Win+Shift+Left arrow key combination to move the active application window to the left monitor.

8. For Dual Monitors: Win+Shift+Right Arrow Key to Move Active Window to Right Monitor

Similarly, if you need to move the current window to the right monitor screen, just press Win+Shift+right arrow key.

9. Win+T to Get to Taskbar Items

You could use the key combination Win+T to toggle through the applications pinned on the taskbar in Windows 7.

10. Shift+Click on a Taskbar App to Open a New Instance of the App

Let’s say you’ve got a bunch of Chrome windows open. And you need to quickly open a new blank window of the browser. Here’s the way – point your cursor to the chrome icon on the taskbar, hit Shift and click on it. There you go!

11. Win+B to Move Focus to the System Tray

In a previous article, we talked about a technique to add more clocks to the default Windows clock in the system tray. Now, if you need to get there without using your mouse cursor, how’d you do that?

Answer – Win+B. That would move the focus on the system tray, and then you could use the arrow keys to cycle through the items, including the Windows clock.

12. Win+P for Quickly Connecting Your Laptop to a Projector

Windows 7 has a nifty projection menu feature which enables you to quickly connect your laptop to a projector or an extended monitor. Win+P is the keyboard shortcut for that purpose.

13. Win+1, Win+2..so on for Opening Taskbar Programs

Want to quickly open a program that’s pinned to your Windows 7 taskbar? You can press the Win key and the number corresponding to the location of the app on the taskbar.

14. Win+Pause helps you check System Properties

Need to take a quick look at what’s the processor model you are using, or may be check the device manager, or advanced system settings? You could use Win+pause key combination to open the system properties window.

15. Ctrl+Shift+Esc Can Quickly Windows Task Manager

I think this was in Vista too, I am not sure. But it’s a cool shortcut nevertheless. Just press the Ctrl key, Shift key and the ESC key simultaneously and you have the task manager pop up right in front!

The other source told Reuters the deal won’t be a purchase by Facebook, but a joint venture between Facebook and Skype.

The image showing the Dead; Osma Bin Laden shows clear merging of the effects using the Adobe photoshop. Look at the ”Left” and “Center” pictures & after looking in carefully you will find that these two pictures (left and center) were merged together using Photoshop to create the third one with exactly same spots on his face. Well this is not first time, many fake profile are created on social networking sites to abuse religion.

The fake profile had uploaded the poster of a movie 3-Idiots but the actors are changed to the 3 God of Hindus.The person behind the profile wanted to convey the message to delete all the anti-islamic pages.He also warn that if the pages were not delete then he/she have 100 of pages like this.

As my opinion facebook is a public open forum and it is not the way to case on such communities. We the users can complain directly facebook to ban such pages.

Microsoft has been silent about the future Operating System,apart from the leak on the MSDN Blog a long time back there has been no news about when Windows 8 will be released, though recently Microsoft Netherlands team on the occasion of first Birthday of Windows 7, has posted on the official news site ,that Windows 8 will hit the market in about 2 years time.They have also mentioned that Windows 7 SP1 would be available in first half of next year. Meet Matt Simpson of Tempe, Arizona. He’s a web-savvy 30-something, and he’s using Facebook’s self-service ad platform to find a long-term romantic partner.
In the recent past, Mashable staffers have been the target of a few campaigns from people who want to get our attention, either for news coverage or for a job. Facebook’s hyper-specific data on users makes it possible for those ad-buying individuals to narrow their campaigns to reach only a select few targets — the people most likely to respond to the ad.
Simpson has taken advantage of those capabilities in a new way. Since he knows what he wants — an emotionally balanced, intellectually and spiritually mature woman — he was able to set his campaign parameters to include women with an expressed interest in yoga, meditation and books by spiritual authors.
On his blog, Simpson notes that on most dating sites, women are bombarded with requests and messages. Too often, those pings are based on shallow, physical criteria. By creating a subtle way to reach out to women who share his deeper interests — and by allowing them to “opt in” to learning more about him rather than seeing his name in a deluge of suitor-sent missives — he might be increasing his odds of finding love online.
And at a cost of $0.75 per click, he might end up saving money rather than using a dating site or trying his luck in the real world of bars and coffee shops. So far, he’s spent less than $20 for his campaign, where women indicate they’d like to get to know him better; for contrast, a Match.com membership, where women are more on the defensive, would have cost him around $35 per month.

Simpson says he’s had no dates yet, but he was contacted by six women in the first week of the campaign.
“For tech-savvy folks like us,” he wrote in an email, “the gut reaction toward ‘creepy’ is not as strong. However, the public at large seems to have a difference reaction — either because it’s invasive or because it seems desperate.
“I think it’s a promotion-versus-attraction issue. The proliferation of dating sites has helped America accept attraction-based online dating. Promotion-based online dating is new. There’s got to be a reason that the big dating sites don’t offer added profile exposure for purchase.”

With the blogging platforms today, adding images to improve the look and feel of your blog has never been easier. As more and more images are being used in blog posts, it is very important to consider how the search engines will view your images and the effect that can have on your blog.
The biggest problem for a webmaster is when an image results in his or her blog being placed outside of Google’s safe search filter. This can occur, even if everything else in your blog is completely family friendly. There are a few precautions that you can take to help ensure that you don’t fall victim to this problem.

Be careful when naming your image files. Never use any name though could sound like the image may be adult in nature or oriented toward gambling or non-family friendly topics.
Use descriptive alt text for your images. Don’t just list keywords, but actually provide a very concise description of the image.
Keep others from hotlinking your images. This can be done with a quick setting change within your host’s cpanel. If a search engine finds a couple of adult sites hotlinking to your website, it can result in your images (and blog) being filtered by safe search.

The key is to just keep in mind how an image that you use would be viewed by a search bot. If there is any chance that the bot could get the wrong idea, play it safe and use a different name or alt text. Being proactive with your blog’s images can prevent many headaches down the road.

Blackberry Empathy - A unique Concept Phone

RIM Blackberry recently sponsored a concept phone design project at Art Center college of design. The objective was to design a phone that integrates the human emotions and social networking into the existing mobile phone functionalities. Designers Kiki and Daniel came up with the concept phone called "Blackberry Empathy". We read about this from this neat design blog called yankodesign. The phone has some really fresh concepts. First up, the phone works in conjunction with a biometric ring which has to be worn by the user. This biometric ring is capable of collecting the "emotions and moods" of a person wearing it. This data would be captured through the "Empathy" handset. This emotional data is incorporated nicely into the interface which you will witness shortly. Second up is the transparent OLED touchscreen which is capable of changing from 'transparent' to 'opaque'. Third up is the unique interface which is formed in ring-like fashion.The inner-coloured-ring shows the contacts previous emotional state and the outer ring shows the contact's current state of mind. Given that the objective was to incorporate 'emotional state' and the 'social networking' aspect, I guess the concept offered is not bad! I cant find an explanation for the weird handset shape though!

It is of course touch based and all the user’s connections are shown graphically so you can see who is connected to whom. Each contact has an avatar that is encompassed by two colored rings. The inner colored ring shows the contact’s previous emotional state, and the outer ring represents the contact’s current emotional state. It is important to show the shift in emotions in order to see how an event has affected that contact.

Another important feature that we felt was important was the “Emotional Health Chart”. This chart would monitor the user’s emotional health through an indefinite period of time. One would be able to see how a certain event, or phone call/ message has affected the user. Obviously, if the chart shows someone is always upset, there would be a problem… If permitted, a user would be able to view other user’s charts as well.

I am searching for the best way to block a website and I got it
Here is the procedure

1)Go to run and type “%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts”(without quotes) and hit enter.

2)When asked, choose notepad as the program to open this file with.(in my case its Notepad2)

3)At the bottom of the page, hit return to start a new line and type “127.0.0.1 <websites name>”

4)Save the file(ctrl+s) and your done. Restart the browser to see the effect.

PS: Sometimes blocking the site’s main address does not work, like in my case:
Adding “127.0.0.1 http://yahoo.com” did not work.
I had to add

127.0.0.1     http://yahoo.com
127.0.0.1     yahoo.com
127.0.0.1     www.yahoo.com
